Hans Erik Deckert

Hans Erik Deckert (b. 1927, Hamburg), grew up in Germany as the son of German and Danish parents. After the war he moved to Denmark in to study cello and conducting in the capital of Copenhagen. Having been immersed in the German musical tradition, Deckert brings a depth of in-demand musicianship to all of his work, from mentorship and coaching in a variety of instructional settings, to his work as an editor.

For Ovation Press, Deckert has employed this musicianship in a wide number of arrangements of varying styles: including Bach's Four Canons from The Art of Fugue, Rachmaninoff's Vocalise, Saint-Saëns' The Swan, and much more.

Deckert developed his passion and career from freelance work and posts held at academies throughout Europe. Presently, Hans Erik Deckert is Honorary President of the Danish section of ESTA (which he also founded in 1978), resident conductor with the Cello Academy (which embraces a professional 12-part cello ensemble as well as regular training courses for students), and holds visiting posts at the Freie Musikschule in Hamburg and the Institute for Music Therapy at Witten-Herdecke University in Germany.
