Strauss Pizzicato Polka Arranged for Cello Octet

Arranged by Carsten Jaspert

Pizzicato Polka (for Cello Octet)
Composer: Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss
Instrument: Violoncello
Editor: Carsten Jaspert
Instrumentation: Violoncello Ensemble
Pages: 4 for the score and 8 for the violoncello parts

The Pizzicato Polka by Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss is one of the most famous polkas by the "Waltz King". The arrangement for cello octet is a suitable encore for a cello ensemble concert. The performers come back on stage with their instruments but without bows. The fifth cellist does not even bring his cello. He will play the role of a professional percussionist: most of the time he just sits there and listens. Shortly before his "Solo" at the beginning of the Trio he stands up, takes a little bell out of his pocket and plays his few very important notes with a very serious expression. When he's ready he sits down again and waits for the end of the piece.
