The Pizzicato Polka by Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss is one of the most famous polkas by the "Waltz King". The arrangement for cello octet is a suitable encore for a cello ensemble concert. The performers come back on stage with their instruments but without bows. The fifth cellist does not even bring his cello. He will play the role of a professional percussionist: most of the time he just sits there and listens. Shortly before his "Solo" at the beginning of the Trio he stands up, takes a little bell out of his pocket and plays his few very important notes with a very serious expression. When he's ready he sits down again and waits for the end of the piece.
