  • Windows: Scorch will work with Internet Explorer 32-bit, Firefox and Chrome
  • Mac: To see what version of Mac OS you're running, click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen and select "About This Mac":
To download and install Scorch for Mac, please follow these instructions:
  1. Click here to download Scorch for Mac
  2. Once you have downloaded the .dmg file from the link above, double-click on the "InstallScorch.dmg" icon in your Downloads folder
  3. Double-click on the "SibeliusScorch620b89.pkg" icon to start installation
  4. Go through the installation process. Once it is finished, you will be able to view our scores. In some cases, a "Missing plug-in" message may be displayed; if this is the case, please refresh the page or re-start your browser. You may also need to restart your computer.

If you are having difficulty downloading Scorch or are experiencing other non-printing related problems with Scorch, click here.

When you view a score on ovationpress.com, the music will appear in a Scorch window, with the following toolbar:

  1. Turn pages
  2. Changes which device you use for playback
  3. Playback controls and tempo slider.  Click play button to play from the start, or click on the score to play from that point or stop.

Some buttons will be unavailable depending on the score you are viewing.

We highly recommend that you try viewing and printing a sample score available here prior to completing any purchase.  To print the score press the printer icon in the Scorch toolbar.  Ifyou have any problems printing, click here for help. If after reviewing this page you are still having difficulty printing, please email us at support@ovationpress.com.

Scorch problems

I am having difficulty downloading Scorch

You may have anti-virus or firewall software that is preventing your computer from downloading Internet browser plug-ins like Scorch.  Please refer to the instructions that came with your software to find out how to allow your Internet browser to install plug-ins.

When I try to view a score using Safari, Scorch's window never appears and the page is blank, or the page never finishes loading

If you have a 64-bit capable Mac (i.e. Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Xeonprocessor), then Safari will run as a 64-bit process by default in Mac OS X.  Scorch is a 32-bit browser plug-in, and so cannot run insidea 64-bit browser.

To work around this issue, do the following:

  • Quit Safari
  • In the Finder, go to /Applications
  • Select the Safari icon and type Command-I to view the Get Info window
  • Switch on Open in 32-bit mode
Occasionally the solution above does not work for people using Scorch with Safari.  In this case please try installing Scorch in Firefox.

When attempting to view different titles using Scorch, the same one appears each time

Usually this indicates an issue with temporary Internet files.  For Internet Explorer this can be addressed by choosing Tools then Internet Options then under Browser history choose Settings.  Here, be sure to check Automatically for Check for newer versions of stored pages.

Scorch is installed, but there is still just a box where the music is supposed to be

Make sure you have installed the latest version of Scorch by clicking here.

After installing Scorch, please close and reopen your Internet browser to allow Scorch to work properly.  Some computers may also require a restart for Scorch to work.

Scorch may also not work properly if your Internet Privacy/Security settings are set too high, or if you use firewall or pop-up blocker software.  Your computer needs to be able to accept “cookies” from our server and some firewalls or pop-up blockers interfere with this process.  You may need to disable these in order to use our website.

Playback does not sound right (or there is no sound at all)

Playback has been disabled for certain scores.  To check your playback settings with a score that has playback enabled, click here.

An error message appears: "The score is corrupt or missing" or “The score did not load successfully. Please try viewing the page again."

You are likely using an old version of Scorch.  Please be sure you are using the latest version of Scorch by clicking here.

I am unable to save the Scorch file

Scorch digital sheet music does not include a file that can be saved to your computer’s hard drive.  After you have purchased a score, you will be provided with a link to the score where you may print it.  If you try to save the webpage, the score will not save along with it.

When viewing the music on my computer screen, certain words or notes appear to be overlapping or too close together

Scorch will not always display our scores on the yourcomputer screen in the exact same way they will print out.  Whenlooking at a sample page of a score we would encourage you to print itout to get the most accurate depiction of what our scores look like.

When trying to download Scorch, I am told that Scorch is already installed on my computer yet it still doesn't work

If you have more than one version of your browser on your hard disk, it is possible that Scorch may have been installed in the wrong folder.  You may need to delete all copies of your browser and reinstall a new version of the browser.  After doing this please try to download Scorch again.

I am having problems reinstalling Scorch (Windows only)

Sometimes Scorch will not reinstall correctly if you used Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel to uninstall an older version.  If Scorch was the only plug-in installed for your Internet browser, the Scorch uninstaller may have deleted the Plugins folder.  When trying to reinstall Scorch, the installer was unable to locate the required folder to install the plug-in.

To fix this create a new folder called “Plugins” in the correct location (i.e. for Internet Explorer, the location should be C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins), and then try running the Scorch installer again.

I am concerned that Scorch will be installing malicious software on my computer

Scorch is not malicious software.  For a complete copy of Avid Technology’s (the corporate parent of Sibelius) privacy policy click here.

I want to upgrade to the latest version of Scorch

If you are using Internet Explorer and have already installed Scorch, there is no need to update it unless you are prompted to do so when attempting to view a score.  If asked to upgrade, click "Yes" and the most recent version of Scorch will install automatically.

For users of other browsers, you may click here for the latest version of Scorch.

I want to remove Scorch from my computer

Scorch is a plug-in for your Internet browser.   For Windows users, you can go to Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows Vista), select Sibelius Scorch in the list of installed programs, and click Remove (Windows XP) or Uninstall (Windows Vista).

Mac users can delete Scorch by deleting the single file Scorch.plugin from /Library/Internet Plug-ins.

Still having problems?

Printing problems

We highly recommend that you try viewing and printing a sample score available here prior to completing any purchase.  To print the score press the printer icon in the Scorch toolbar.  If your printer is not functioning properly please wait to print your purchases until the issues have been resolved.

When printing my purchased score, only one page prints out and it has the ovationpress.com watermark on it

This problem has occurred for certain customers using Internet Explorer 6 and at this time a solution is not available.  If you are using Internet Explorer 6, please upgrade to a newer version (7 or later) or use a different browser such as Firefox.  If you are not using Internet Explorer 6 please email us at support@ovationpress.com.

My printer ran out of paper

With most printers, don't turn off the printer - just feed in some more paper and your score should continue printing.

My printer jammed when I was printing my music

If after fixing the jam you are unable to print your entire purchase please email us at support@ovationpress.com for assistance.

No paper is coming out of my printer

Check that your printer is switched on, contains paper and is plugged into your computer.  If it is, please print any standard text document to check whether your printer is set up correctly.  If the text document does not print, please refer to your printer’s owner’s manual to set up your printer correctly.  If the text document successfully prints, please see "Still having problems?" below.

My printer has no black ink

While you will be able to print using only a color ink cartridge it will use much more ink than it would when printing using a black ink cartridge.

My printer ran out of ink when I was printing my music

If after refilling your printer's ink you are unable to print your entire purchase please email us at support@ovationpress.com for assistance.

Printing to a PDF is not working

Please do not attempt to print your scores to a PDF file.  This functionality is not supported by Scorch and any attempt to do so will cause Scorch to assume you have successfully printed your score and you will lose your purchased print.

The music does not fit on the paper or is cropped off

When you click Scorch's Print button, in the Print dialog box be sure to switch on the Fit to Paper option.  On Classic Mac OS this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box; on Mac OS X, it is in the area named after your web browser.  Then print.

Staff lines and note stems are missing, uneven or have rounded ends

When printing a score, after you click Scorch's Print button, in the Print dialog box change the Substitute Lines option.  On Classic Mac OS this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box; on Mac OS X, it is in the area named after your web browser.  Then print.

Arpeggios are appearing as vertical wavy lines or glissandos are showing up as diagonal wavy lines

Alternate pages are missing

You may have set the score to print only odd/even-numbered pages. Find the score again, click Scorch's Print button, then on the Print dialog box choose the Normal and All options.   On Classic Mac OS this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box; on Mac OS X, it is in the area named after your web browser. Then print.

Keyboard braces are missing or are the wrong size

When printing a score, after you click Scorch's Print button, in the Print dialog box change the Substitute Braces option if there is one.  On Classic Mac OS this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box; on Mac OS X, it is in the area named after your web browser.  Then print.

The printer was too slow or ran out of memory

When printing a score, after you click Scorch's Print button, in the Print dialog box switch on the Substitute Lines option.  On Classic Mac OS this is in the Sibelius area of the dialog box; on Mac OS X, it is in the area named after your web browser.  Then print.

I tried to print several copies of a score but it did not work

Each purchase at ovationpress.com allows you a single print.  When buying a score you cannot print more copies than you have paid for.  If you have purchased multiple copies of a score you will need to print each copy separately.

Notes are printing as text characters, squares or other font problems

Try changing your printer's font settings.  For instance, in Windows try printing again but click Properties in the Print dialog box, then try changing options which affect font printing, such as Print fonts as graphics or Print TrueType as graphics (usually on the Font tab of the Properties dialog box).

My computer crashes when attempting to print

If you have tried all the other solutions to printing problems without success, check if you have the latest driver for your printer.

You should be able to download the latest driver from the printer manufacturer's web site:

To install the new driver please follow the instructions on the printer manufacturer's website.

The web page printed but there is no music

You may have clicked Print at the top of your browser window, or Print in the File menu, or used Command-P or Ctrl+P.  These functions only print the web page, not the Scorch file.  When attempting to print a Scorch file, be sure to click the Print button in the Scorch toolbar located above the music.

Only the first sample page is printing

If you are attempting to print a score that you have purchased, you may need to delete your temporary Internet files.  For users of Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options then under Browsing history click on Delete then under Temporary Internet Files click Delete files.  Close the browser and try printing again.

You may also need to upgrade to the latest version of Scorch by clicking here.

Nothing happens when I click the printer icon in the Scorch toolbar

Please check that your printer is switched on, contains paper and is connected to your computer.  If no printer dialogue window appears and the printer icon is grayed-out, try clicking the Refresh button in your Internet browser’s toolbar.  This should allow you to click the printer icon again.  If you have already printed the score the allotted number of times, a box will appear when you click the printer icon that says, "This score has already been printed."

I don't have a printer

When you make a purchase at ovationpress.com you will be provided with links that will allow you to print the scores you have purchased.  If at the time of your purchase you are not able to print, you may login to your account at a different time or from a different computer and can then print your music.

The problem I am having is not listed

If you have tried all other solutions to printing problems without success, check if you have the latest driver for your printer.

You should be able to download the latest driver from the printer manufacturer's web site:

To install the new driver please follow the instructions on the printer manufacturer's website.

I need an additional attempt to print my music
