A native of Canada, Mr. Milton joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1975 after two seasons with the St. Louis Symphony. He is a founding member of the Evanston Chamber Ensemble, which began in 1979. As the originator of the Winter Chamber Music Festival each January at Northwestern University's Pick-Staiger Hall, he has performed with such artists as Daniel Barenboim, Gil Shaham, Menahem Pressler, Yo Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman and Lynn Harrell. He has also appeared on the Ravinia Festival Preview Series and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Artist Series. He has appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Georg Solti, as well as with other orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.
He has been teaching violin and the orchestra studies program at Northwestern University since 1984 and is the String Program Director of Northwestern's National High School Music Institute. He has given master classes around the United States, as well as in South America, Germany and Japan.
He studied with Josef Gingold at Indiana University where he earned a master's degree. Other teachers include Ivan Galamian and Sidney Harth, a former concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony.
