Scarlatti Sonata in G Major K. 391 - Strings and Harpsichord
Edited by Amy Barlowe
Title: Sonata in G Major K. 391 Composer: Domenico Scarlatti Instrument: Two Violins, Viola, Cello, Bass, Harpsichord Editor: Amy Barlowe Instrumentation: Chamber Pages: 13 for the score and parts
Italian baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well known to keyboard players for his sonatas. Written primarily for harpsichord and most often in binary form, they number close to 600. Having arranged this lively and elegant and work for violin and viola, Amy Barlowe has taken a step further and arranged Scarlatti's Sonata in G Major, K. 391 for strings (Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, Bass) and harpsichord.
"Ms. Barlowe possesses the rare and genuine ability to arrange multi-musical genres with an authoritative sensibility and stylistic acuteness that captures a composition’s inherent color, timbre, mood, flair and originality. Ms. Barlowe’s Scarlatti arrangement not only captures and enhances the composer’s intent, but brilliantly highlights the liveliness and Spanish flair of the guitar-like virtuosic solo moments within.
