Ravel, the master of orchestration, was well-known for reworking solo pieces (both original and by other composers) for full orchestra. His Pavane was one such piece and marks the editorial debut of Kars Sebastian Keen with Ovation Press.
The arpeggione is a long-extinct six-stringed instrument, bowed like a cello but fretted and tuned like a guitar. Its only notable piece, Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, is now available in an exciting new arrangement for cello and guitar by Valter Dešpalj.
The Allegro Appassionato is one representation of the strong interest Camille Saint-Saëns developed in the cello during the middle of his career. In this edition, Hans Erik Deckert has arranged the accompaniment for four cellos, while keeping the original solo part in the first cello.
Inspired by the great tenor Mario Lanza, Ernst Schliephake has arranged Verdi's dramatic romanza Celeste Aida for violin solo.
Over the course of his career, the post-Romantic composer Sergei Rachmaninoff wrote a number of small-scale compositions. Viacheslav Dinerchtein has brought one of these compositions – Melody, Op. 3, from the set Morceaux de fantaisie – to viola solo with piano.
