The Mobile is one of 16 arrangements for elementary string ensemble included in Richard Young's Comprehensive String Pedagogy & Curriculum. On a scale of "Easy", "More Challenging" to "Difficult but Still Appropriate for Elementary Students", The Mobile is rated "More Challenging".
The prototype for this piece is a beautiful Bach chorale. There are four versions: the original that moves in quarter notes, an eighth-note version, a triplet eighth-note version, and a sixteenth-note version. The intent is to address these different rhythms (and their particular bowings) in a context that is more "musical" than scales and etudes.
There are many variables that teachers can choose. Besides a wide range of dynamics, they can focus on different bow strokes, such as martelé, spiccato, sul ponticello, tremolo, staccato, etc.
-Richard Young
Full program notes are included with the score. There are fingerings and bowings in all the string parts of every one of CSPC's pieces. These "cooked-in" technical solutions target the particular levels of the students. They are not just pragmatic but "musical." A complimentary keyboard accompaniment sound file for Bach: The Mobile is available here.
