Lozano's La Muerte de Neftolio Allegro is one of 12 string quartet arrangements for intermediate strings included in Richard Young's Comprehensive String Pedagogy & Curriculum. A portion of the proceeds of sales for all CSPC music goes to support free music education at The People's Music School.
Our old friend, Neftolio, is reborn in this very cool version for string quartet. Players and listeners from all cultures cannot help but sway to its pulsating rhythms and intoxicating melodies. It doesn’t matter if they’re young or old, whether they wear expensive suits or tattered blue jeans, whether they come from big modern cities or the dusty streets of poor little towns. Neftolio’s energy and passion brings smiles to all.
The biggest challenge in this string quartet version is to convey as much variety and color as the orchestral version even though there are now only four string players. Trying to compensate by playing this like Brahms or Tchaikovsky misses the mark entirely. The goal should be to follow the example of all the great composers of string quartets: to do more with less!
-Richard Young
Full program notes are included with the score. There are fingerings and bowings in all the string parts of every one of CSPC's pieces. These "cooked-in" technical solutions target the particular levels of the students. They are not just pragmatic but "musical."
Please note that due to a loss of source files, the PDF files of the music have been generated from scanned copies of printed parts. While every effort has been made to produce high quality parts, the limitations of scanning will result in some degradation of print quality.
