Bizet Symphony in C Major - Advanced Orchestra
By Richard Young
Title: Symphony in C Major Composer: Georges Bizet Instrument: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass Editor: Richard Young Instrumentation: Orchestral Pages: 83 for String Parts
Bizet's Symphony in C Major is one of 11 classical pieces for advanced orchestra included in Richard Young's Comprehensive String Pedagogy & Curriculum. A portion of the proceeds of sales for all CSPC music goes to support free music education at The People's Music School.
Bizet composed his magical Symphony in C Major when he was only 17 years old – the same age as many of the youth orchestra musicians who play it today! That it
radiates such joie de vivre should not obscure the reality that the 1st and 2nd violin
parts in the finale make this one of the most challenging pieces in CSPC’s Advanced
section. Indeed, there are few works in the entire Romantic orchestral repertoire
that require such breathtaking virtuosity. The challenge for student and professional
players alike is to make the difficulties sound like “child’s play.” A true virtuoso is not someone who makes easy things sound difficult. It’s someone who can make difficult
things sound easy.
-Richard Young
Full program notes are included with the score. There are fingerings and bowings in all the string parts of every one of CSPC's pieces. These "cooked-in" technical solutions target the particular levels of the students. They are not just pragmatic but "musical."
Please note that due to a loss of source files, the PDF files of the music have been generated from scanned copies of printed parts. While every effort has been made to produce high quality parts, the limitations of scanning will result in some degradation of print quality.
